From social climbing group to non-profit serving the LGBTQ community of New York

2013

  • Event registration system moved to climbcrux.org (from meetup.com)
  • Committees to run indoor, outdoor, education and special events programming
  • CRUX Climbing Community College (C4) adult education programming
  • Coaching program for at-risk and homeless youth

2012

  • 501(c)(3) non-profit certification
  • Board of Directors and Advisory Committee created
  • 12 or more events every month
  • Creation of adult climbing team
  • Programming for homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth
  • Over 1400 members on meetup.com site

2011

  • Two events held each week at Brooklyn Boulders plus events at other gyms
  • Ice climbing trips added
  • Programming for homeless LGBTQ youth in partnership with the Ali Forney Center and Green Chimneys

2010

  • Multiple events held each month
  • First outdoor events at the Gunks (NY), Central Park (NY), Rumney (NH) and the New River Gorge (WV)
  • First holiday party raises nearly $3,000 for the Ali Forney Center
  • Membership platform created
  • New event hosts join team
  • Over 700 members on meetup.com site

2009

  • Kate Raddock and John Masse join CRUX management team
  • Brooklyn Boulders becomes CRUX’s home gym
  • More regular events and growing membership

2008

  • CRUX founded by Danielle Jablonski and Meghan McDonald
  • Monthly events at The Rock Club or MPHC Climbing Gym
  • Started using meetup.com for event registration
